James R. Grover Junior

James Russell Grover junior (born March 5, 1919 in Babylon , New York , † October 14, 2012 there ) was an American officer , lawyer and politician . Between 1963 and 1975 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Grover Jr. was born in Babylon in 1919 and grew up there. He graduated from Babylon High School , then from Hofstra College in Hempstead in 1941 and from Columbia Law School in New York City in 1949 . During World War II , he served in the coastal artillery from 1942 to 1943 and in the United States Army Air Corps in the China theater between 1943 and 1945 . Upon his release, he held the rank of captain . He was admitted to the bar in 1951 and then began practicing in Babylon. Between 1957 and 1962 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the 1962 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Steven B. Derounian on January 4, 1963 . He was re-elected five times in a row. In his seventh candidacy for the US House of Representatives in 1974 , he suffered a defeat and left after January 3, 1975 from Congress . He then resumed his practice as a lawyer. He died in Babylon on October 14, 2012.
