Emanuel Bernard Hart (born October 27, 1809 in New York City , † August 29, 1897 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Emanuel Bernard Hart was born and raised in New York City about three years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He attended public schools and then went on to do business. Hart served in the New York militia, where he held the rank of colonel . In 1845 he sat on the Board of Aldermen . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1850 , Hart was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jonas P. Phoenix on March 4, 1851 . He retired from the after March 3, 1853 Congress of. President Buchanan appointed him in 1857 to the average adjuster ( surveyor ) in the Port of New York , a position which he held until the 1,861th In the same year the civil war broke out. Hart then sat on the Board of Assessors . He studied law and began practicing law in 1868 after receiving his license to practice law. He then served as immigration commissioner between 1870 and 1873 and as president of Mount Sinai Hospital between 1870 and 1876 . Three years later he was excise commissioner and then Treasurer ( treasurer ) of the Society for the Relief of Poor Hebrews . He died in New York City on August 29, 1897 and was then buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery , Brooklyn .
