Henry Bristow (born June 5, 1840 in São Miguel , Azores , † October 11, 1906 in Brooklyn , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The Bristow family immigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn. Henry Bristow attended public and private schools there. After the outbreak of the Civil War , he signed up on April 26, 1861 as a private member of Company B of the Seventh Regiment of the New York Militia , but was retired on June 3, 1861. He went about commercial business until 1896. Then he was appointed magistrate in Brooklyn. Between 1880 and 1889 he was a member of the Brooklyn Education Committee.

Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1900 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New York , where he succeeded Edmund H. Driggs on March 4, 1901 . He suffered for his re-election bid in 1902 , a defeat and withdrew from the after March 3, 1903 Congress of.

The following year he was made Public Administrator of Brooklyn, a position he held until his death there on October 11, 1906. His body was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery .
