Jotham Post junior

Jotham Post junior (born April 4, 1771 in Westbury , New York Province, † May 15, 1817 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jotham Post Jr. was born and raised near Westbury about four years before the outbreak of the War of Independence . He graduated from Columbia College in New York City in 1792 . Post studied medicine but never practiced, instead serving as a drug importer in New York City. He was on the Board of Aldermen . He then served as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1795 and between 1805 and 1808 . During this time he was director of the New York Hospital between 1798 and 1802 .

Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party . In the congressional elections of 1812 Post was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of New York , where he succeeded Samuel L. Mitchill and William Paulding junior on March 4, 1813 , who had previously been second together Represented district in the US House of Representatives. Since he refused to run again in 1814 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1815 . He died in New York City on May 15, 1817.
