John Michael Clancy

John Michael Clancy (born May 7, 1837 in County Queens (now County Laois ), Ireland , † July 25, 1903 in Butte , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1895 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Michael Clancy was born a few weeks before the death of William IV , King of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover , in the former County of Queens. His family immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City . He attended public schools in Brooklyn there and then went into real estate business. Between 1868 and 1875 he was Alderman in the then still independent city of Brooklyn. He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1878 and 1881 .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1888 , Clancy was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Peter P. Mahoney on March 4, 1889 . He was re-elected once. He then ran for a seat in Congress in New York's second constituency. After a successful election, he succeeded Alfred C. Chapin on March 4, 1883 . He then went back to New York City to go about his real estate business. His candidacy for a seat in Congress in 1896 was unsuccessful. He died on July 25, 1903 in Butte on his return journey from Yellowstone National Park . His body was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
