T. Vincent Quinn
Thomas Vincent Quinn (born March 16, 1903 in Long Island City , Queens , New York , † March 1, 1982 in Venice , Florida ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Thomas Vincent Quinn was born in Long Island City, a neighborhood in the New York borough of Queens, in the early 20th century . He attended elementary school and high school in Queens . In 1924 he graduated from Fordham University Law School . He was admitted to the bar that same year and then began practicing in New York City in June 1925 . He was from September 1931 to August 1934 assistant district attorney in Queens and between 1934 and 1947 assistant federal attorney for the eastern district of New York; at times he was also acting federal prosecutor. On July 21, 1947, he was appointed Assistant Attorney General of the United States, a position he held until his resignation on August 10, 1948. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the 1948 congressional election , Quinn was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Robert Tripp Ross on January 4, 1949 . He was re-elected two years later , but resigned from Congress on December 30, 1951 .
He then served as a District Attorney in Queens until December 31, 1955. Quinn suffered defeat in his 1955 Democratic nomination for that post. He was appointed magistrate on April 30, 1957 , a position he held until his office was merged with the New York City Criminal Court in 1962. He then worked as a judge at the Criminal Court until September 15, 1972 . He then lived in Venice until his death on March 1, 1982.
