Louis (L.) Gary Clemente (born June 10, 1908 in New York City , † May 13, 1968 in Jamaica , New York ) was an American officer , lawyer and politician . Between and he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Louis Gary Clemente was born and raised in New York City about six years before the outbreak of World War I. During this time he attended St. Ann's Academy and the LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale (New York). In 1925 he received a reserve officer certificate in Plattsburgh and in 1929 a reserve officer license. He then graduated from Georgetown Law School in Washington, DC in 1931. He was licensed to practice in the District of Columbia in 1931 and then began practicing in Washington, DC. He also received admission to New York and the Supreme Court . After the United States entered World War II , he enlisted in the US Army in 1941 . At first he held the rank of second lieutenant. When he retired from active service in 1946, he was Lieutenant Colonel . Between 1946 and 1949 he sat on the New York City Council .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1948 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Gregory McMahon on January 4, 1949 . He was re-elected once. In 1952 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on January 3, 1953 .

He was then Executive Vice President of Unexcelled Chemical Corp., Ohio Bronze Corp., Premier Chemical Corp. and Modene Paint Corp. He died on May 13, 1968 in Jamaica and was then buried in St. John Cemetery in Flushing .
