Morgan Jones (born February 26, 1830 in London , Great Britain , † July 13, 1894 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1865 and 1867 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Morgan Jones was born in London four months before the death of George IV , King of Great Britain and Ireland . His family immigrated to the United States in 1833 and settled in New York City. He attended public schools there and worked as a plumber in 1850 . Between 1859 and 1863 he was a member of the Board of Councilmen and its President in 1860, 1861 and 1863. He then sat on the Board of Aldermen in 1864 and 1865, and was its President for the last year. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1864 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Benjamin Wood on March 4, 1865 . He retired from the after March 3, 1867 Congress of. He then went about his business in New York City until 1887 when he retired. He died there on July 13, 1894 and was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in the then still independent city of Brooklyn .
