Gregory McMahon
Gregory McMahon (born March 19, 1915 in New York City , † 1989 in Garden City , New York ) was an American officer and politician . Between 1947 and 1949 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Gregory McMahon was born in New York City during World War I. He attended a parochial school . He then graduated from St. John's Prep School in Brooklyn in 1933 and from St. John's University in 1938 . Between 1939 and 1942 he taught at St. John's College . During this time he also worked as an auditor from 1939 and attended St. John's Law School between 1939 and 1941 . After the United States entered the Second World War in December 1941, he signed up as an Ensign in the US Navy. He served in the Pacific War until October 1945 . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In the 1946 congressional election , McMahon was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of New York , where he succeeded William B. Barry on January 4, 1947 . He suffered in 1948 during his re-election bid a defeat and withdrew from the after Jan. 3, 1949 Congress of. He then worked as an auditor and tax advisor. He lived in Garden City, where he died in 1989.
