Thomas H. Cullen

Thomas Henry Cullen (born March 29, 1868 in Brooklyn , New York , † March 1, 1944 in Washington, DC ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1919 and 1944 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Henry Cullen was born about three years after the end of the Civil War in the then still separate city of Brooklyn and grew up there. During this time he attended local parochial schools and graduated from St. Francis College in 1880 . He then went on to pursue marine insurance and shipping businesses. He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1896 and 1898 and the New York Senate between 1899 and 1918 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . As a delegate, he attended every Democratic National Convention from 1912 to 1932 . In the 1918 congressional election , Cullen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in the fourth constituency of New York, where he succeeded Harry H. Dale on March 4, 1919 . Cullen was re-elected twelve times in a row. He died in Washington DC during his final term on March 1, 1944, and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery , Brooklyn.
