John Henry Hobart Haws

John Henry Hobart Haws (* 1809 in New York City , † January 27, 1858 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Henry Hobart Haws was born in New York City about three years before the outbreak of the British-American War . In 1827 he graduated from Columbia College (now Columbia University ) in New York City. He studied law and began practicing law after receiving his license. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional elections of 1850 Haws was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Walter Underhill on March 4, 1851 . In 1852 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on March 3, 1853 . He died on January 27, 1858 in New York City and was buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery . His body, however, was reburied in Green-Wood Cemetery in 1866 .
