Jules Delamarre
Jules Delamarre (born April 9, 1867 in Provins , † December 17, 1909 in Paris ) was a French epigraphist .
Delamarre studied at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris. From 1893 he was a full member of the Association pour l'encouragement des études grecques en France . He undertook extensive research trips to Greece, in particular to the islands of Amorgos and Santorini , where he discovered numerous art monuments and inscriptions. He published his historical and archaeological studies mainly in the Revue de philologie, de littérature et d'histoire anciennes .
Delamarre compiled a collection of all of Amorgos' inscriptions, first published in 1896 and awarded the Prix Zographos by the Association in 1908. Through the mediation of Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff , Delamarre edited the inscriptions again for the academy project Inscriptiones Graecae . Since he was fatally ill in the meantime, Friedrich Hiller von Gaertringen closed the collection with an index.
