The Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 1971/72 was the fifth season of the third highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It was started on September 9, 1971 with the 1st game day and ended on May 27, 1972 with the 30th game day.

As in the previous season, the league was designed as a four-track league with 15 teams each. The four groups were referred to as group red , group white , group green and group blue . At the end of the season, all four winners were promoted directly to the 2nd league . As the only renewal for the preseason, the league was played with relegation. The teams in the last two places in the table in all four groups were relegated to the then fourth-class regional amateur league.

At the beginning of the season the four relegated teams from the 2nd Lig Beykozspor , Nazillispor , Hacettepe GK and Galata SK were added to the 56 teams remaining from the previous season . There were no newcomers who were either accepted as champions from the then fourth-class regional amateur leagues or who met the requirements of the Turkish Football Association and were thus allowed to participate in the third-highest division.

Lüleburgazspor , Beykozspor , Gaziantepspor and Karabükspor achieved the championship of the 3rd Lig and thus direct promotion to the 2nd Lig . While Beykozspor reached the direct promotion to the 2. Lig, the rise of Lüleburgazspor, Gaziantepspor and Karabükspor meant the first participation of their club stories at the 2nd Lig. End of the season were from the group Red Hasköy SK and Ülküspor from the group White Beylerbeyi SK and Yeşildirek SK , from the Grün Sanayi Barbaros SK and Altındağspor group and from the Blau Bahçeli Gençlik SK and Yenişehir SK group as relegated to the regional amateur league. The club Yenişehir SK from the capital Ankara declared at the beginning of the season that it was not participating in the league. All games were rated with a 3-0 defeat and the club was declared the first relegated team.

For the first time this season, the goal difference was introduced instead of the goal quotient.
