TFF 2nd Lig 2012/13
PTT 1st Lig 2013/14

The Spor Toto 2. Lig 2013/14 will be the 43rd season of the third highest Turkish division in men's football. It will start on September 8, 2013 with the first match day. On May 31, 2014, the 2013/14 season will end with the playoffs between the second to fifth place in both groups.

Competition mode

In the 2013/14 season, the TFF 2. Lig was divided into two groups, as in the previous season . In contrast to the previous season, the total number of teams has been increased from 34 to 36. There are 18 teams in the "white group" (beyaz group) and the "red group" (kirmizi group) playing for promotion to the TFF 1st Lig and against relegation to the fourth-class TFF 3rd Lig . In the preseason, both groups consisted of 17 teams. The division of the teams into the respective groups was determined by drawing lots. The draw was held on July 11, 2013 in the Turkish capital Ankara in the Atabey Olympic House.

The competition mode was adopted almost unchanged from the previous season and only two changes took place in the play-off phase.

The top of the table in both groups rose directly to the higher TFF 1st Lig . The teams in places two to five in both groups took part in the play-offs, in which the third promoted team was determined by the knockout system . The play-offs began with the quarter-finals. In the preseason, all play-off games were played in a city that was neutral for all participating teams and each stage was carried out with one game. With the 2013/14 season, all play-off phases, with the exception of the final match, were played back and forth. Only the final was then held in a city that was neutral for both participating teams and only played out with one game. In the playoff, the table runner-up of the respective group will meet the table fifth of the same group and the table third of the respective group will meet the table fourth of the same group. With the exception of the final, each knockout round was played with two matches in a two-legged manner.

The last three placed in both groups were relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig .

Foreigners' places

Foreign players are not allowed to play in the TFF 2. Lig. Teams that have been relegated from the TFF 1st Lig can loan their foreign players to clubs in the upper leagues.

Composition of participants

At the beginning of the season, the three relegated teams from the TFF 1. Lig Göztepe Izmir , Kartalspor , MKE Ankaragücü and the six newly promoted teams from the TFF 3. Lig Gümüşhanespor , Dardanelspor , Pazarspor , Diyarbakır Büyükşehir Belediyespor , 19 , Altınordu Izmir has been added.

While Göztepe and Kartalspor were relegated to the second league after three and seven years respectively, the traditional club Ankaragücü rose to the third highest Turkish league for the first time in its club's history.

Season course

League phase

In this third division season Altınordu Izmir reached under the leadership of Hüseyin Eroğlu two days before the end of the season, the third division championship of the group red and thus promotion to the TFF 1. Lig . With this rise, the club returned to the second division after 24 years of abstinence. In the White Group , the Black Sea Club Giresunspor replaced the previous leader and autumn champion Hatayspor on matchday 28 and secured the championship on the last matchday and thus, after a two-year absence, promotion to the TFF 1st Lig.

Bozüyükspor from the red group missed the theoretical possibility of relegation on matchday 29, the 5th matchday before the end of the season, and thus rose to the TFF 1st Lig after seven years of membership in the third division . On matchday 31, Bozüyükspor was also the bottom of the table in the Red group. Istanbul Güngörenspor missed the league on Matchday 31 after a 2-1 home defeat against Alanyaspor . Since the team was nine points behind the runners-up Eyüpspor , but were in direct proportion worse, they were the second relegated group of red. Eyüpspor forgave relegation to their direct relegation competitor İskenderun Demir Çelikspor on the last day of the match . The Istanbul team said goodbye to the TFF 2. Lig after twelve years of membership. In the White Group , Çankırıspor was the first relegated team on the 32nd matchday. The next day Dardanelspor was the second and on the 35th and final day of the Istanbul club Gaziosmanpaşaspor as the last relegated.

Play-off phase

The last promoted player was determined by the play-offs carried out after the league phase. For the play-offs qualified as second to fifth from the group Red Alanyaspor , MKE Ankaragücü , Bandırmaspor , Diyarbakır Büyükşehir Belediyespor and from the group White Göztepe Izmir , Hatayspor , Yeni Malatyaspor , Kartalspor .

The dates of the play-off games were set on May 9, 2013. Accordingly, the first legs of the quarter-finals will take place on May 16 and the second legs on May 20. The first leg of the semi-finals will be played on May 23rd and the second leg on May 27th. The quarter-finals of the red group are Alanyaspor-Diyarbakır Büyükşehir Belediyespor and MKE Ankaragücü-Bandırmaspor and the quarter-finals of the white group are Göztepe Izmir-Kartalspor and Hatay-Yeni Malatyaspor .

The top scorer was Gökhan Karadeniz from the west Turkish representative and champion of the group Rot Altınordu Izmir with 27 goals . The Turkish Football Association only counted goals in the league phase and not in the playoffs for the top scorer.

Special occurrences

  • MKE Ankaragücü were deducted one point at the end of the season because of various irregularities by the Turkish Football Association .
  • The Central Anatolian club Çankırıspor replaced a large part of its squad with new signings during the winter break. Since the club management had not applied for the licenses for the new signings in time, the game against Giresunspor on matchday 18 could only be played with four licensed players. Ali Karatutlu, the referee of this game, then canceled the game in accordance with the regulations. The Turkish Football Association then rated the game with a 3-0 defeat for Çankırıspor.
