Of is a city and district in northeastern Turkey on the Black Sea . Of is in the province of Trabzon , east of the provincial capital.

The region is rich in rainfall, forested, mountainous and agricultural. The main products are tea and hazelnuts. The town of Of is located on the coastal road ( E 97 ) between Trabzon and Rize on a plain created by the Solaklı Çayı river . The closest small towns are Sürmene , 14 kilometers to the west, and İyidere , 10 kilometers to the east. A branch line branches off to the south in a valley cut in the Pontic Mountains to Bayburt (90 kilometers). The river Baltacı Deresi flows 4 km further east near the village of Kıyıcık .

Óphis ( Greek "snake"), derived from Of, has been the name of the region and the river since the 2nd century AD. In the 17th century, the residents of the place and its surroundings converted to Islam. Later, because of their madrasah, they had a reputation for particularly dogmatic religious interpretations.

Today's small town was founded in the 19th century under the name Solaklı and later renamed.
