Faruk Atalay (born March 18, 1981 in Of ) is a Turkish football player on the position of midfielder .

Player career

Atalay started his club football career in the youth of Galatasaray Istanbul and received a professional contract here in the spring of 1997, but played another three seasons for the reserve team. The second half of the 1999/00 season he was loaned to the second division Diyarbakırspor and made eight league games here by the end of the season. In the summer of 2000 he returned to Galatasaray and played in almost all of his team's matches until the second half of the season. Nevertheless, he was loaned to league rivals Bursaspor for the second half of the season.

National team

Atalay started playing for the Turkish national youth teams early on. From the U-15 he went through all youth teams in his country.

With the Olympic selection of the Turkish national team, he took part in the 2001 Mediterranean Games and reached the semi-finals.
