Maçka ( Lasish Maçuka, Greek Ματσούκα Matsouka ) is a district town and a district in the southwest of the Turkish province of Trabzon .
The city is located on a route from Trabzon to Gümüşhane directly on the Değirmendere River . Maçka has 5,750 and the district 24,494 inhabitants (as of 2010).
The district borders on the Gümüşhane Province in the south . With 1000 km² Maçka is the largest district in the province. Maçka is characterized by mountains and deep valleys created by rivers. Here are impressive buildings with the monasteries Sumela and Vazelon . Sumela is located in the Altındere National Park . In the district of Maçka, founded in 1913, there are two other municipalities and 57 villages .
The Kuştul monastery , built in 752 for the Pontic Greeks who lived here until 1923, is located near the village of Şimşirli .
