Akçaabat ( Platana in ancient times ) is a district town and district in the north of the Turkish province of Trabzon . The city, which lies directly on the Black Sea , was founded by Greek colonists from Miletus in the 7th century BC. Founded. The colony was called Platana , probably because of the abundance of plane trees . Akçaabat was part of the Ottoman Empire for centuries and was also called Polathane (Eisenheim), which is probably a corruption of the original Greek name. Akçaabat has 40,589 and the district 113,117 inhabitants (as of 2012).

In addition to Akçaabat, there are fourteen other municipalities and 49 villages in the district.

Sports

With the football club Akçaabat Sebatspor, the city and the district have had a football team since the 1923s that represented the region predominantly in the second and third highest Turkish league, today's TFF 1st Lig and TFF 2nd Lig . This means that the association was founded well before the better-known association of the province of Trabzon , before Trabzonspor . The club had its most successful time in the years 2003 to 2005, in which they took part in the competition for two seasons in the top Turkish league, the Süper Lig . With the exception of the teams from the cities of Istanbul , Izmir and Ankara , Sebatspor was the first district team in Turkish football to make it into the Süper Lig. It was not until the summer of 2012 that Akhisar Belediyespor, another team from a district, was able to participate. In the summer of 2012, the club rose from the fourth-rate and the lowest Turkish professional league, the TFF 3rd Lig , and has since played in the regional amateur league, which in turn corresponds to the fifth-highest Turkish league.
