Ricardo Gabriel Álvarez (born April 12, 1988 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine - Italian football player . His preferred position is the offensive midfield.

Club career

Álvarez played in his youth for Caballito Juniors, Club Parque, Boca Juniors and Vélez Sársfield, where he has been part of the professional squad since January 2008. On June 8, 2008, he made his debut in the Premiera Division when he was substituted on for the game against CA Independiente . With Vélez Sársfield, he won the Clausura championship in 2009 and 2011 .

In the summer of 2011 , Álvarez, who was also interested in Arsenal London and AS Roma , joined the Italian top club Inter Milan . The Milanese paid around twelve million euros for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder, known in South America as " Kaká von Velez", a sum that contractually increased by another million euros after 80 competitive appearances. He made his competitive debut for the Nerazzurri on August 6, 2011 against AC Milan in the game for the Italian Supercup , which was lost 2-1. After initial difficulties getting involved in the Milanese game and various injuries, Alvarez improved and has been a regular for the Nerazzurri since the end of the 2012/13 season.

For the 2014/15 season , Alvarez was loaned to the Premier League club AFC Sunderland . On January 4, 2016, Alvarez was bought by Serie A club UC Sampdoria Genoa .

National team

On September 2, 2011, Álvarez made his debut in the Argentina national football team in a friendly against Venezuela . The game ended in a 1-0 win for the Albiceleste.
