Yaşar Mumcuoğlu (born October 31, 1940 in Akçaabat ) is a former Turkish football player . Due to his many years of service for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , his name is closely associated with this club. He was part of that Fenerbahçe-team in the 1967/68 season by winning the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Cup for the first time in club history the Turkish double could get. As a winger, he formed the club's attack with his strike partners Ogün Altıparmak and Nedim Doğan for over half a decade. He went down in European and Turkish football history when he scored the first goal in the 59th minute of the first meeting of the UEFA Cup , which was introduced in the summer of 1971 and was played between Fenerbahçe and Ferencváros Budapest on September 14, 1971 of the cup competition.

Player career

society

The beginnings of Mumcuoğlu's footballing career are almost undocumented. As a first recorded activity, he began to play from the 1963/64 season for the Turkish first division club from the capital Ankara , PTT SK . He made his professional debut in the league game on September 14, 1963 against Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In the further course of the season he completed 17 league and three cup encounters. He showed a special performance in the city derby on November 16, 1963 against Gençlerbirliği Ankara . Here he scored all three goals of his team to make it 3-1. In the next season, the 1964/65 season , he immediately captured a regular place and ended the season with seven goals as the most successful goalscorer of his team. Through this season performance he also made many clubs aware of himself. With his club he won the Spor Toto Cup this season . In this competition, his team prevailed against Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe and Göztepe Izmir and achieved one of the greatest successes in the club's history.

After his first international nomination, with which he also became the first national player in the club history of PTT SK, Mumcuoğlu was able to increase his market value and was one of the most sought-after strikers of the summer transfer period in 1965. So tried with Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul , the clubs known as the three major Istanbul clubs for a commitment from Mumcuoğlu. After weeks of transfer negotiations, the reigning champions Fenerbahçe finally secured the transfer rights to Mumcuoğlu for a transfer fee of 300,000 Turkish Lira . At his new club Mumcuoğlu quickly conquered a regular place, but remained without a title in the first season with his club. In his second season, the 1966/67 season , Mumcuoğlu played the entire season with arch-rivals Beşiktaş for the Turkish championship, but forgave them in the last match days. In addition to the Turkish runner-up, Mumcuoğlu was able to win the Spor Toto Cup and the Balkan Cup with his club . In early April 1967 he suffered a meniscus injury and was therefore unable to play the rest of the season. Despite this injury-related break, Mumcuoğlu was the most successful goalscorer of his team with his 12 competitive goals together with his teammate Ogün Altıparmak .

In the 1967/68 season he and his team under the leadership of the Hungarian coach Ignác Molnár won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup . As a result, Mumcuoğlu was one of the Fenerbahçes squad that won the first double in club history. Mumcuoğlu ended the season with nine competitive goals behind Ogün Altıparmak as the second best scorer of his team and was thus significantly involved in the double. His achievements also aroused the interest of some European clubs, so Feyenoord Rotterdam expressed interest in a commitment. The second season under Molnár, his club remained below expectations both in the league and in the cup. After this disappointing season, the Molnár club replaced the Romanian coach Traian Ionescu . Under this coach, Mumcuoğlu's team returned to the road to success, ended the 1969/70 season as Turkish champions and also won the TSYD Istanbul Cup, which was played pre-seasonally . Mumcuoğlu himself ended the season with 26 competitive appearances and two goals. Despite the successful season with Ionescu, the club management replaced him with his compatriot Constantin Teaşcă . Under this new coach, Mumcuoğlu retained his position in the team and increased his competitive stakes to 40 games. His club failed to defend their title in the Turkish championship and finished the league as runner-up behind arch-rivals Galatasaray.

With the 1971/72 season Mumcuoğlu lost his regular place. He ended the season with 13 competitive appearances and had no title with his club. Despite this position within the team, Mumcuoğlu went down in European football history with a goal this season. So he scored in the first encounter of the UEFA Cup introduced in the summer of 1971 , which was played on September 14, 1971 between Fenerbahçe and Ferencváros Budapest , with his goal from the 59th minute, the first goal of the cup competition. In his last season at Fenerbahçe, he and his team won the President's Cup , the Prime Minister's Cup and the Turkish runner-up. He himself only played sporadically this season. He was only used once in the starting line-up in his four league appearances and was only substituted on in seven of his eight appearances. In none of the eight competitive matches he played the full length of the game.

After the club officials from Fenerbahçe considered selling Mumcuoğlu in every transfer period from the beginning of the 1970s, he was put on the sales list in the summer of 1973. Fenerbahçe first tried to use Mumcuoğlu in return for signing striker Zeki Temizer from city and league rivals Vefa Istanbul . After this player exchange did not materialize, Mumcuoğlu reached an agreement with the second division club Sakaryaspor . With this club he played for two seasons and then ended his career in the summer of 1975.

National team

In April 1965 Mumcuoğlu was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team as part of a friendly match of the 1966 World Cup against Portugal by national coach Sandro Puppo and completed his first international match in this game. In the same year he also made his debut for the Turkish U-21 national team .

Overall, he completed one U-21 and six A internationals.
