Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu

Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu (* 1929 or 1931 in the village of Tavşanlı in the district of Of , Turkey ) is the religious leader of the İsmail-Ağa community in Istanbul , which belongs to the Nakşibendi order . He is also called Mahmut Hoca or Mahmut Efendi .

Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu received his first religious education from his father, the village imam Ali Efendi. His mother's name was Fatma. At the age of 16 he married his cousin Zehra. The couple has three children. Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu learned Arabic in Kayseri and did his military service first in Bandırma , later in Istanbul. After his military service, he settled in Istanbul.

Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu was appointed imam of the community's main mosque in 1954 , an office he held until 1996. He was the student of Ali Haydar Efendi, who died in 1960 and whom he succeeded.
