history
founding
The association was founded in 1983 by the businessmen of the Grand Bazaar as Kapalıçarşı Spor Kulübü , Kapalıçarşı SK for short . Kapalıçarşı is the Turkish name for the Grand Bazaar . Under this name, the club made it into the third-highest Turkish league, then known as the 3rd Lig , and thus into professional football for the 1988/89 season . After moving to Güngören in the summer of 1990 , the club name was changed to Güngören Belediyespor (German: Gündören City Administration Sports Association ). At that time there was already an association called Güngörenspor , so that the name with the addition Belediyespor was evolved. With this new name, the club then took part in the third division season 1990/91 .
In the 2007/08 season, the club made the first ascent in the club's history to the second highest Turkish league, today's TFF 1. Lig . Here you missed relegation in the first season, which means you are back in the TFF 2nd Lig after one season . Here you achieved direct resurgence in the first season. In the playoff final for the last promotion place, the traditional southern Turkish club defeated Adana Demirspor 1-0. After you reached relegation in the 2010/11 season, you missed him in the 2011/12 second division .
Change of name and relegation to the amateur league
After all efforts to take over Güngörenspor had failed, the name was changed to Istanbul Güngörenspor in summer 2011 . The club missed relegation in the 1st Lig this season and rose again after two years in the 2nd Lig. In this league, the club was only able to last two seasons and had to relegate to the TFF 3rd Lig in summer 2014 . In this league, too, the club played for relegation from the start of the season and was already relegated weeks before the end of the season. As a result, the club had to relegate back to the amateur league Bölgesel Amatoer Lig after 14 years .
