Metin Altınay (born April 8, 1962 in Ankara ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.

Career

society

Altınay started playing professional football in 1979 with Konya İdman Yurdu . Here he played for a few years and from 1987 played with Boluspor in the 1st Lig , the highest Turkish division. In 1989 he moved within the league to promoted Gençlerbirliği Ankara . Here he quickly established himself within the team and was one of the top performers on his team for three years.

Through his services at Gençlerbirliği, he drew Trabzonspor's attention, which then transferred him in the summer of 1992. At Trabzonspor he only stayed one season without being used by Georges Leekens . So Altınay moved in November 1992 to the then second division İstanbulspor . At the beginning of the 1990s, the businessman Cem Uzan bought his way into the club as a patron and was elected president of the club. Through the acquisition of seasoned first division professionals, they rose again to the second division after nine years in the 1991/92 season . After promotion to the 2nd Lig Uzan invested all the more in the team, but could not achieve anything for two seasons. Among the players signed up to now was Altınay and such well-known players as Tanju Çolak , Saffet Akyüz , Abdullah Avcı , Feyzullah Küçük and Nail Uğur Timurcioğlu . For the 1994/95 season, Kadri Aytaç, the most successful coach in the history of the second division, was hired. In addition, current stars were signed in the past few years with Altan Aksoy , Fuat Buruk and Hamdi Demirtaş . Aytaç quickly formed a competitive squad, with which they immediately settled in the upper third of the table and were almost consistently on a promotion spot. The season ended behind Karşıyaka SK as runner-up and rose again to the 1st Lig after a 24-year absence .

After the rise with Istanbulspor Altınay left this club towards the second division Şanlıurfaspor . For Urfaspor he played another season and then ended his playing career.

National team

Altınay completed a game for the Turkish U-18 national team in 1979.

Coaching career

Altınay took over as the first coaching activity in February 2001, the heavily relegated fourth division club Afyonspor . After he had secured the club on the last day of relegation, the club extended Altınay's contract for another year. In 2003 he left Afyonspor and worked as an assistant coach at the clubs Akhisar Belediyespor and Güngören Belediyespor .

For the 2007/08 season he took over the position of head coach at the fourth division Yalovaspor , but left the club after three match days.

In April 2009 he worked again at Güngören Belediyespor as an assistant trainer. Since the head coach Turhan Özyazanlar resigned a few days after Altınay took office, Altınay looked after the club until the end of the season on an interim basis. He missed relegation in the TFF 1st Lig with his club . After relegation, the club management promoted Altınay regularly to head coach. With his team he became champions of the TFF 2nd Lig at the end of the season and rose to the TFF 1st Lig. Altınay looked after Güngören Belediyespor for another season in the 2nd division as head coach and then parted ways with his position.

After Altınay had looked after Anadolu Selçukluspor and Aydınspor in 1923 , he took over Güngören Belediyespor for the third time in the spring of 2013, which had since been renamed Istanbul Güngörenspor .
