Abdullah Mucip Avcı (born July 31, 1963 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish soccer player and current soccer coach . His last job was between November 17, 2011 and August 20, 2013 as the coach of the Turkish national team .
Player career
Avcı played in his career for the following clubs: Vefa Istanbul , Fatih Karagümrük SK , Çaykur Rizespor , Kahramanmaraşspor , Bakırköyspor , Kasımpaşa Istanbul , İstanbulspor , Küçükçekmecespor and Nişantaşıspor . He was used as a striker.
Coaching career
Abdullah Avcı made his first experiences as interim coach in the 1999/2000 season at İstanbulspor . In January 2004 he moved to Galatasaray Istanbul and coached the youth team there. In May 2005, Abdullah Avcı became European champion with the Turkish U-17 national team . Half a year later, the same team finished fourth in the 2005 U-17 World Cup .
For the 2006/07 season Avcı moved to Istanbul BB . In his first season he was promoted to the Süper Lig with the team . In the following season he succeeded with his team in the upper half of the table to complete the season. In addition, Istanbul BB made it to the Turkish Cup final under his leadership in the 2010/11 season . Istanbul BB lost the final against Beşiktaş Istanbul on penalties.
In November 2011, Abdullah Avcı, succeeding Guus Hiddink as coach of Turkish national. The agreements provided for a contract term until 2015. Halfway there, however, the threat of failure in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup was his undoing, which is why the Turkish Football Association ended their cooperation on August 20, 2013.
In June 2014 Avcı took over his former club Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . At the press conference in which Avcı was introduced as the new head coach, the club also announced that it had spun off its football division, converted it into an independent company and renamed it to the current name Istanbul Başakşehir FK .
The collaboration ended in May 2019. Originally, Abdullah Avcı was supposed to work for the association for another 5 years. After the departure of Senol Gunes at Besiktas , Avcı took over the post as head coach for three years.
On January 24, 2020, Beşiktaş Istanbul announced the dismissal of Abdullah Avcı.
