Doğan Andaç (born January 1, 1922 in Turkey ; † February 6, 2013 ibid) was a Turkish lieutenant colonel , football coach and official. He was in charge of the Turkish national soccer team several times on an interim basis and in 1980 was temporarily president of the Turkish soccer association for one month . He was also a board member of the Turkish Football Association in the 1980s and 1990s, with a few interruptions . He participated intensively in the institutionalization of Turkish football and is considered a sponsor of several later well-known football coaches such as Fatih Terim .
Career
After his school education Andaç went to the Turkish Armed Forces and held several ranks from colonel to major to lieutenant colonel . During his military service he was already intensively involved in several sports such as athletics , basketball and soccer . In addition, during this time he completed several football coaching courses abroad. After these coaching courses, he began several times to look after military football teams as co- and head coach, among other things he worked for some time as a coach of the Turkish national military team. He continued his work as head coach of the military national team for several years, parallel to many other activities. In addition, at this time he made contacts with the great football players and coaches in Turkish football at the time.
From 1964 onwards, parallel to his other activities, he himself organized coaching courses in Turkey and took part in the institutionalization of Turkish football. During these courses he also got to know the then start coach Gündüz Kılıç . After Kılıç was appointed head coach of the Turkish national soccer team in August , Andaç was introduced as one of the assistant coaches of the national team. In the summer of 1965 he temporarily looked after the national team for two games.
In 1966 he also looked after the then first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara as an assistant coach. A few weeks after this engagement at Gençlerbirliği, he was in charge of the Denizli Karagücü military team in May 1966 . With this team, he caused several surprises in the Turkish Football Cup of the 1965/66 season . As an unknown military team from Denizli province at the time , he successively eliminated the professional teams Manisaspor , Ülküspor , Muhafızgücü and the first division club İstanbulspor . In the quarterfinals, the team then failed to Fenerbahçe Istanbul .
In 1968 he was introduced to the first division club Altay Izmir as technical director and looked after the team with coaches Halil Bıçakçı and Doğan Emältay .
From 1970 he took on various tasks at the Turkish Football Association . So he began to work as a team manager of the youth national team and at the same time looked after the Turkish national team of amateurs. In addition, from November 1970 after the resignation of national coach Sabri Kiraz , he was in charge of the Turkish national team for the EM1972 qualifying game against the Albanian national team . Although he got the offer to continue looking after the national team after this game, he refused the offer and instead continued to look after the amateur national team. A few weeks later he was introduced as the new coach of the Turkish U-21 national team. But after the intended coach of the amateur national team did not take office, Andaç continued this office.
With the 1971 he took part in the amateur national team at the Mediterranean Games. In this tournament they missed the finals and prevailed in the game for 3rd place against the amateur national team United Arab Republic with 1-0 and became bronze medal winner.
1973 Coşkun Özarı was introduced as a national coach. Andaç was appointed assistant coach Özarıs in addition to his other posts.
In November 1976, Özarı resigned after three years of service. After this resignation, Andaç was introduced as a transition coach. At the end of January 1977, Andaç handed over the national coaching post to Metin Türel and from then on worked as his assistant coach. He also took over the coaching positions with the amateur and U-21 national team, which he had given up last year. In May 1977 he resigned from both offices.
For the season 1977/78 he took over the coaching of the new first division club Diyarbakırspor . Diyarbakırspor was only promoted to the Süper Lig for the first time in the club's history through the second division championship achieved in the previous season . Andaç managed to stay up early with the club and ended the season in 9th place in the table.
After just one season he left Diyarbakırspor and was introduced as the new head coach at Istanbul's traditional club Beşiktaş . Beşiktaş had a rather disappointing season and was even in relegation battle again at the end of the season. At the end of the season he left the coaching office with the Istanbul team.
Although he had received several offers from first division clubs after his work at Beşiktaş, he decided to work again for the Turkish Football Association and became director of the department for education and youth development at TFF . In this activity he organized national coaching courses in which former soccer players and active coaches could obtain or catch up with their coaching license without a license. In September 1980, the then association president Mazhar Zorlu resigned from his position. After this position remained vacant for about a month, Andaç took over the office of association president on October 10, 1980. Andaç carried out this activity for about six weeks and then handed the office over to Yılmaz Tokatlı . Andaç returned to his old job as head of the education and youth development department. In April 1981 he ran for the position of association president. After he could not win this election, he left the Turkish Football Association.
At the end of September 1981 he took over at his old club Diyarbakırspor for the second time as a coach, replacing Turan Ağalday . After he was able to free the relegation-threatened club by March 1982 from the relegation ranks, he separated from the club. Cahit Kargı was introduced as his successor . This failed at the end of the season with Diyarbakırspor relegation.
In the summer of 1983 he took over the position of assistant coach at the Turkish national soccer team and worked again with the head coach Coşkun Özarı . After Özarı failed due to illness before the EM1984 qualifying game against the Northern Irish national team , Andaç took over the team on an interim basis and prepared them for the game according to the precise instructions of Özarı. From 1984 he also looked after the Turkish U-18 national team in addition to his work as an assistant coach for the national team.
After Özarı resigned from his post in the summer and was replaced by Candan Tarhan , Andaç left his post and instead took over the Turkish national team of amateurs again. Tarhan left his post in December 1984, so Andaç was already being discussed as his successor. However, this setting did not materialize, so Andaç continued his work with the amateur national team. He also started being featured in the Turkish U-21 national team.
In September 1985, Coşkun Özarı took over the office of national coach again and also appointed Andaç again as one of his assistant coaches.
At the end of 1986 he ended his coaching career and was subsequently a member of the Turkish Football Association and the Turkish Football Coaching Club in such positions as a member of the supervisory board until the 2000s.
death
According to a press release from the Turkish Football Association , Andaç died on February 6, 2013 at the age of 90. After his death, before all upcoming matches of the Süper Lig , TFF 1st Lig , TFF 2nd Lig and TFF 3rd Lig , a minute's silence was held in his memory before the game kicked off. One day after his death, he was buried in the Cebeci cemetery after the funeral prayer in the Kocatepe Mosque in the capital Ankara . Many greats of Turkish football appeared at his funeral.
