Rebii Erkal (born February 10, 1911 in Istanbul , † November 25, 1985 ibid) was a Turkish football player and coach. Because of his work for Galatasaray Istanbul and Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is associated with these clubs. In 1951 he coached the Turkish national team for about five months .

Player career

society

Erkal began playing football in the youth of Galatasaray Istanbul and was accepted into the professional team in 1928. This association was founded two decades earlier by students of the grammar school and still had a permanent affiliation with the grammar school. After he was active for seven seasons for the red and yellow, there was a heated controversy within the team. As a result, several players and officials separated from the team under the leadership of Ulvi Yenal and Yusuf Ziya Öniş and founded the club Güneş SK . Erkal was one of the players who left Galatasaray and joined Güneş. From the summer of 1938 one played in the İstanbul Futbol Ligi (German: Istanbul Football League ), the same league as Galatasaray. In the season 1937/38 he reached the league championship with this team.

When Güneş was dissolved after three years and most of the players returned to Galatasaray, Erkal moved to city rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Here he played five seasons in which he and his team were twice masters of the Millî Küme . In the summer of 1944 he ended his active professional football career.

National team

Erkal was appointed to the squad of the Turkish national team for the first time in 1931 by the then national coach Béla Tóth and played in two Balkan Cup matches.

In 1936, Erkal was nominated for the Turkish national team as part of the 1936 Summer Olympics . During a test match for this tournament, he wore the national dress for the third time. During the tournament he was active in the only game of his team and was eliminated with his team in the round of 16 from the tournament. After the Summer Olympics, he played one more and last time for the national team in 1937.

Coaching career

After his football playing career, he began to work as a football coach. His first activity was the Istanbul club Vefa SK after his football career . In addition, he trained his entire coaching career with Adalet SK , Beyoğluspor and Kasımpaşa Istanbul exclusively from Istanbul clubs.

On June 17, 1951, he took over the Turkish national team and looked after it until November 21, 1951. He was a national coach in three international matches and achieved two wins and one defeat with his team.
