Ünal Karaman (born June 29, 1966 in Konya ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach .

Player career

society

Karaman began his career at Konyaspor , where he began his active career as an amateur player between 1981 and 1984. He then moved to Gaziantepspor , where he played for three years until the end of the 1987 season. He made his breakthrough in professional football at Malatyaspor . Between 1987 and 1990 he scored 23 goals in 91 games. From 1990 followed nine successful years in Trabzonspor , where he was a regular player and was the mainstay of the team. He was mainly used as a midfielder in his career. For Trabzonspor he scored 47 goals in 218 games. At the end of his career, he played 20 games for MKE Ankaragücü in the 1999/2000 season , in which he scored four goals.

National team

He could recommend himself with his performances for the Turkish national team. Karaman was called up to the national team between 1985 and 1996, where he scored three goals in 36 international matches. For the U-21 he made five international matches between 1985 and 1987, where he scored one goal. As a player in the U-18s, he played three times before in 1984 and scored one goal.

Coaching career

After his career as a football player, he was assistant to Şenol Güneş in the Turkish national team . You finished third in the 2002 World Cup with Turkey.

On March 31, 2004, Karaman supervised the Turkish national soccer team as an interim coach in the game against the Croatian national soccer team after the dismissal of Şenol Güneş.

For the 2014/15 season he was hired as the new head coach at the second division side Adana Demirspor . After he missed the declared goal of promotion at the end of the season, the collaboration with Demirspor was ended.

For the 2016/17 season he was hired as the new head coach at the second division club Şanlıurfaspor and was in charge of this until November 2016. In April 2018, Karaman became the head coach of Kardemir Karabükspor .
