The İzmir Ataturk Stadı is a football stadium in the southwest Turkish metropolis of Izmir . With a capacity of 51,295, the facility is the third largest stadium in the country.

history

The venue was completed in 1964 and named after the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk . The former home of the football club Göztepe Izmir originally had a capacity of 80,000 spectators and was sold out for the first time on May 16, 1981, at the clash in the city ​​derby between Göztepe Izmir and Karşıyaka SK .

In 1985 the stadium was renovated. From then on it had more seats and a capacity of 63,000 seats. From 2005 to autumn 2006 the stadium was renovated again. The audience capacity is now 51,295 seats.
