Gaziosmanpaşa Spor Kulübü or Gaziosmanpaşaspor or Gaziosmanpaşa SK for short is a Turkish sports and football club from the Istanbul district of Gaziosmanpaşa . Gaziosmanpaşaspor was founded in 1963; The Green-Reds play their home games in the Gaziosmanpaşa Stadium .
history
founding
The club was founded in 1965 in the Gaziosmanpaşa district of Istanbul and the district of the same name through the efforts of some district notables.
Entry into professional football
After Turkish professional football was reduced from three to only two professional leagues in the summer of 1980, the third highest professional football league, the 3rd Lig , now known as TFF 2nd Lig, was reintroduced in 1984 on the directive of then President Turgut Özal . In addition, it was announced that after certain requirements and conditions have been met, you can apply for participation in the league. In order to promote urban development, several district notaries tried to meet the requirements. After the conditions were met, the Turkish Football Association confirmed participation. For example, Gaziosmanpaşaspor took part in the re-introduced 3rd league in the 1984/85 season and was fifth in Group 2 at the end of the season.
Promotion to the second division and the following years (1990-2001)
After the club had been active for six seasons in the 3rd league, they ended the third division season in 1989/90 as champions and rose for the first time in the club's history to the second highest division, the 2nd league . Here you played the following eight seasons. In the summer of 1999 they missed relegation, but achieved direct promotion in the following season. In the summer of 1999, the club rose again.
The third division years (2001-2014)
Between 2001 and 2014, the club played with small interruptions in the third highest Turkish division, the TFF 2nd Lig . Although the club had to relegate to the TFF 3rd Lig three times during this time , it returned to the 2nd Lig after a few seasons.
Relegation to the amateur league (2014-2016)
In the summer of 2014, the club missed relegation in the TFF 2nd Lig and relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig. In the first season, the 2014/15 season , after this relegation, the club played the entire season against relegation and only secured relegation on the last day of the game. The second fourth division season, the 2015/16 season , the club quickly slipped to the relegation places and wintered as bottom of the table. After a break in the second half of the season, the club was relegated to the amateur league after 32 years of professional football in the summer of 2016.
