society

İlhan Sancaktar started playing club football in the youth department of the Istanbul club Gaziosmanpaşaspor . In 1989 he was accepted into the professional team of the then second division club. Already in its first season with the professionals, the club was champion of the 3rd Lig , the third highest division at the time, and rose to the 2nd Lig. After he was active here until the summer of 1991, Sancaktar moved to the then first division club Aydınspor . Here he played until the summer of 1993; he left the club after unsuccessful relegation.

For the 1993/94 season he moved to the first division club Kayserispor and played for this club for the next eight years. In the 1995/96 season, Sancaktar experienced his best season. So the then national coach Fatih Terim noticed him and nominated him. His club, however, played the season for relegation and missed relegation at the end of the season. Sancaktar was loyal to his club and went with him in the 2nd Lig. In the 2nd Lig Kayserispor reached the runner-up and thus the direct promotion to the top Turkish league. After a year in the 1st Lig, the club missed relegation again and played again in the second division. Sancaktar played for Kayserispor until the summer of 2001 and then ended his active professional football career.
