Vedat Vatansever (born September 20, 1969 in Bursa , Turkey ) is a former Turkish football player , coach and manager. Despite his only four years of activity for Bursaspor , he is strongly associated with this club as a home grown man. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. Due to his blonde hair and his fast and stormy style of play, he was nicknamed Sarı Fırtına (in English: blonde storm ) during the seasons .

Player career

society

Vatansever was born in 1969 in the western Turkish city of Bursa . At the end of his primary school education, he took part in an entry draft from Bursaspor and was then accepted into the youth department of this club. For the 1986-87 season, he received a professional contract, but was then the reserve team, then Bursaspor B called given. At that time this team played in the third highest division, which was then known as the 3rd Lig and today as the TFF 2nd Lig . With this team you reached the championship of the third division season 1987/88 and rose to the second highest division, in today's TFF 1. Lig . At the end of the season, the club's management decided that Vatansever should play for the reserve team for another year. With this he reached the championship of the second division season 1988/89 at the end of the season . Since reserve teams were not allowed to play in the same league as the first team, the second-placed Bakırköyspor was appointed official champion by the Turkish Football Association and rose to the highest Turkish league, today's Süper Lig . For the season 1989/90 he was taken up by the newly hired coach Yılmaz Vural in the professional squad of the 1st team and slowly introduced to the team. Here he was mostly on the bench and only played three top division games. The team ended the season in 6th place in the table.

For the 1990/91 season he was found by then Romanian coach Ion Nunweiller as not sufficient for the professional team and put on the list of players who should be loaned. To enable him match practice, he was awarded for a season to the second division Ayvalıkgücü . For the 1991/92 season he returned to Bursaspor and was kept in the team squad. Bursaspor started the season with the Yugoslav coach Đorđe Milić . This coach left Vatansever mostly on the bench and only changed him once in a league game against Beşiktaş Istanbul . After the club fell far short of expectations under this coach, he was replaced by former coach Yılmaz Vural in mid-November . This coach had already brought Vatansever to the professional squad two years ago and was known for working with young players. So Vatansever quickly got a regular place and made the breakthrough. This season he formed a successful team with then unknown players such as Ali Nail Durmuş , Hakan Şükür , Taner Ertaş and Feti Okuroğlu , all of whom would later become famous greats in Turkish football. The team was supplemented by veterans such as Feyzullah Küçük , Turan Şen and Ján Gabriel . With this team you reached the 6th place in the table. Vatansever was the most accurate player of his team in all competitions with eleven goals. In the Turkish Football Cup of the same season they reached the final. In the cup final, which was played back and forth at the time, Bursa clearly won their first game in front of their home crowd with 3-0 against Trabzonspor . They lost the second leg with 1: 5 and missed the cup win that was believed to be safe. Vatansever had made a significant contribution to reaching the finals with its five cup competition hits. After missing the cup, they played against Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the Prime Minister's Cup . The game decided Bursaspor 3-1 for themselves and won this cup for the second time after 1971, in which the club already prevailed 1-0 against Fenerbahçe. Vatansever scored the decisive 3-1 for his team. The other two youngsters Ali Nail Durmuş and Hakan Şükür scored the other goals. In the following season they again occupied the 6th place in the table and Bursaspor reached the quarter-finals in the Turkish Football Cup. Vatansever was here together with Feti Okuroğlu with seven goals after Ali Nail Durmuş, who had scored eight, the second most successful goalscorer of his club. At the end of the season he received offers from the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş Istanbul, Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul , but remained loyal to his home club. In the summer of 1993, the coach Vural left the club and was replaced by the German coach Sepp Piontek . Under this new coach, the club scored ten points in nine league games and fell far short of expectations. This is how the club's management reacted and replaced Piontek with Nevzat Güzelırmak . Also under this trainer one experienced a mixed season and finished 9th place in the table at the end of the season. Vatansever enjoyed the trust of both coaches. Because of this failure, there was a displeasure in the club. Vatansever fell out with two board members and had to leave the club as a result.

In the summer of 1994 Vatansever moved within the league and hired the newly promoted Petrol Ofisi SK . Here he immediately established himself as a performance coach and was the most accurate player of his club with eight league goals. Since the club missed relegation, Vatansever decided to change.

He agreed for the 1995/96 season with the first division team Samsunspor . Here he only played one season and then left Samsunspor for second division Karşıyaka SK . After a year for Karşıyaka, he played for brief periods in succession for Eskişehirspor , Kestel Belediyespor and Bandırmaspor . With the latter he signed an amateur contract and played under the appropriate license. A short time later he switched to the amateur club Gemlikspor and ended his active football career here after the end of his contract.

National team

Due to his shown performances at Bursaspor , Vatansever was nominated by the then national coach Sepp Piontek as part of a test match against Bulgaria in the squad of the Turkish national team . In this game of August 26, 1992 he came on in the 79th minute for Hami Mandıralı and completed his first and only international match.
