The Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 1987/88 was the 17th season of the third highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It was started on August 16, 1987 with the 1st game day and ended on May 29, 1988 with the 34th and final game day.

Competition mode

In the 1987/88 season, the TFF 1st Lig, in contrast to the previous season, was not played in ten groups, but was transferred to a nine-track league with 15 to 18 teams. The total number of teams has also been reduced from 166 to 152. These 152 teams played in nine groups for promotion to the 2nd league or against relegation to the regional amateur leagues. The division of the league was carried out regionally, so that all teams in a group came from neighboring or close to one another provinces . All first placed went straight to the 2nd league , while the relegated in some groups were the two bottom of the table or only the bottom of the table.

Beginning of the season were the remaining from the previous season 133 Teams eleven relegated from the 2. Lig reyhanlı belediyespor , Osmaniyespor , Elazığspor , Sökespor Kulübü , Kirsehirspor , Düzce Kervan Doğsanspor , Bandirmaspor , Üsküdar Anadolu SK , Vefa Simtel , Çanakkalespor and Silivrispor , the eight newcomers Trabzon Yalıspor , Tedaş 12 Martspor , Batman Belediyespor , İskenderun Sahilspor , Eskişehir Şekerspor , Yeni Bahçeli SK , Yücespor , İstanbul DSİ SK have been added. The newcomers had either been accepted as champions from the then fourth-class regional amateur leagues or had fulfilled the requirements of the Turkish Football Association and were allowed to participate in the newly created league.

Giresunspor ( Group 1 ), Mardinspor ( Group 2 ), Nevşehirspor ( Group 3 ), Polatlıspor ( Group 4 ), Alanyaspor ( Group 5 ), Ayvalıkgücü ( Group 6 ), Bursaspor B ( Group 7 ), Uzunköprüspor ( Group 8 ) and Kartalspor ( Group 9 ) achieved in their groups the championship of the 3rd Lig and thus direct promotion to the 2nd Lig .

End of the season were from the Group 1 Karsspor and Gümüshanespor , Group 2 Pazarcık Aksuspor and Diyarbakır Yolspor , Group 3 Afşinspor and Malatya İdman Yurdu , Group 4 Yeni Bahçeli SK , Group 5 Karamanspor and Antalya Yolspor , Group 6 Alaşehirspor , Group 7 Erdekspor and eskişehir demirspor , Group 8 Tekirdağ Sarayspor and Hayraboluspor and Group 9 Kocaeli BB Kağıtspor and Taksim SK as relegated to the regional amateur league.

As of this season, the 3-point rule (three points for a win) was introduced.

    1Diyarbakır Yolspor withdrew from the game at the start of the season, whereupon the Turkish Football Association rated all games Diyarbakır Yolspor with a 3-0 defeat. Yolspor was the first to be relegated.

    2Torbalıspor was kept in the league by decision of the Turkish Football Association . A disciplinary procedure found that in the game Alaşehirspor against Tirespor a match had been agreed and as a result of this agreement Torbalıspor ended up on a relegation zone.
