history

Foundation and the first years

The club was founded in 1934 under the leadership under the name Darıca Gençlerbirliği Spor Kulübü (in German: Sports Club Youth Association Darıca ). After the club was founded, the club played in the regional leagues for a long time.

Entry into professional football and the third division years

After Turkish professional football had been reduced from three to just two professional leagues in the summer of 1980, the third highest professional football league, the 3rd Lig , now known as TFF 2nd Lig , was reintroduced in 1984 on the directive of then President Turgut Özal . In addition, it was announced that after certain requirements and conditions have been met, you can apply for participation in the league. In order to promote urban development, several city notables tried to meet the requirements. After the conditions were met, the Turkish Football Association confirmed participation. Darıca Gençlerbirliği failed to participate in the 1st third division season after the reintroduction of the league. It was not until the 1986/87 season that the club reached participation in this league. After reaching places in the upper third of the table for the first two seasons, the following seasons were mainly occupied by places in the lower third of the table. In the summer of 1994, the relegation failed, so that after eight years of membership in the third division, they were relegated back to the amateur league.

Return to the 3rd Lig and subsequent promotion to the 2nd Lig

After relegation to the amateur league, the then newly elected mayor of the city, İbrahim Pehlivan , also got involved with the club. Since he had an affinity for football and had the necessary powers, he was quickly elected club president. Within a short time, investments were made in both the club's infrastructure and in the team. As a first consequence of these investments, the club rose again in the summer of 1997 to the third highest division, the 3rd Lig . In the first season after promotion, in the 1997/98 season , they surprisingly finished 9th in the table. In addition, the arch-rival Gebzespor was given important point losses and the club was prevented from being promoted to the 2nd league. Before the following season, investments were made again in the team and several seasoned players were bought. As a result, they fought head-to-head with Gebzespor for the third division championship over the entire season, which they clearly won with a twelve point lead. With this result, the club rose for the first time in its history to the second highest division.

The first year of the second division and the Gölcük earthquake

Raised to the 2nd league, the club could not continue to participate in the league due to an exceptional circumstance. On August 17, 1999, the Gölcük earthquake struck Turkey . In addition to a large number of fatalities, the earthquake also resulted in almost all of the infrastructure in the affected provinces being damaged. Due to these circumstances, the teams Sakaryaspor , Düzcespor and Darıca Gençlerbirliği , who came from the affected provinces, could no longer participate in the game of the 2nd Lig. The Turkish Football Association freed these three clubs from the rest of the game and scored all remaining games with a 3-0 defeat. The clubs were kept for the coming season in the 2nd Lig, so that instead of the usual ten relegated teams, eight teams were relegated this season.

System-related relegation to the TFF 2nd Lig and the following third division years

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. Until then, professional football in Turkey consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-track Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi with five seasons and two stages and the third-rate and eight-track Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams, which only occupied a middle place in the table in the second division season 2000/01 , were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd Lig, for the coming season. Darıca Gençlerbirliği, who was affected by the earthquake in Gölcük , ended the season in 7th place in the table and had to relegate to the 2nd Lig Bategorisi due to the system .

Already in the first season after relegation to the 2nd Lig Bategorisi , the club reached the playoffs and missed here in the last instance the indirect promotion to the 2nd Lig Aategorisi . After the following three seasons had only reached middle table positions, the club managed to participate in the playoffs again in the third division 2005/06 season . This time they failed in the round of 16 against the Istanbul club Sarıyer SK . In the coming season they finished the league as bottom of the table and rose to the fourth highest Turkish division, the TFF 3rd Lig, from.

Promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig

After relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig , the club reached the playoffs in the first season. Via the playoffs, the club then managed to return to the TFF 2nd Lig . Promoted to this league, they missed relegation, so after a year they played again in the TFF 3rd Lig.

Since 2009

In the fourth division season 2009/10, the club reached the promotion round, but finished it as penultimate. In the following 2010/11 season they reached the playoff final of the TFF 3rd Lig, but lost here with 0: 1 Altınordu Izmir . After the 2011/11 season had ended only in 8th place in the table, they delivered a head-to-head race for the league championship with Altınordu Izmir in the 2012/13 fourth division season . After you had occupied second place in the championship behind Altınordu and thus missed direct promotion to the league, you played in the playoffs for indirect promotion. Here they reached the final, but lost 2-0 to Gümüşhanespor .
