history
founding
The association was founded in 1933 under the name Ege Gençlerbirliği with the club colors blue-white and red by Nevzat Yergüz and eight other people. Yergüz also took over the post of the first club president. Over the years the association has undergone several name changes and was ultimately given its current name.
Entry into professional football
In the summer of 1984, the club received consideration for the third highest division (then called the 3rd Futbol Ligi, now known as the TFF 2nd Lig ) and thus the first participation in Turkish professional football. Here the club established itself quickly and at the end of the 1994/95 season managed to move up to the second-class 2nd Futbol Ligi . In this league, the club falsely let four yellow-banned players appear in one match and received a penalty of three points from the football association. Due to these point deductions, the relegation failed with one point difference, so that after a year you were again third class. Then the club played in the 3rd Turkish league for five years.
Systemic relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig
Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams that only occupied a middle place in the table in the third division 2000/01 season were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd league, for the coming season. Fethiyespor, which had finished the league in 13th place in the table, had to relegate to the 3rd Lig due to the system.
Return to the 3rd division
After the system-related forced relegation to the newly founded TFF 3rd Lig, the club played in this league for five years. Finally, the team finished the fourth division season 2005/06 as runner-up and rose to the TFF 2nd Lig.
The 2011/12 season ended fourth in the table and qualified for the relegation round, in which the last climber for the second-rate TFF 1st Lig is determined through games in the knockout system . Here they defeated Kızılcahamamspor in the quarterfinals and Bozüyükspor in the semifinals . Only in the final of the relegation failed to Adana Demirspor with 2: 1 and so in the last instance missed promotion to the TFF 1st Lig.
Modern times
The long-awaited ascent was finally achieved in the 2012/13 season. In the relegation round, which they reached fifth in the table, they defeated İnegölspor in the quarterfinals and Yeni Malatyaspor in the semifinals . In the final of the relegation, the promotion was made perfect with the win against Hatayspor .
Fethiyespor got off to a bad start in the TFF 1. Lig and was last in the table after the 13th matchday. As a result of this false start, the promotion coach last season, Mustafa Ceviz , left the club and was replaced by the former national goalkeeper Engin İpekoğlu . After this coaching change Fethiyespor scored in the fourth round of the Turkish Football Cup on nine points clear first of the Süper Lig , on Fenerbahce . In a thrilling game, Fethiyespor defeated the house-high favorites Fenerbahçe 2-1 and created one of the biggest sensations in Turkish football of 2014.
