Bergama Belediyespor is a Turkish football club from the district capital Bergama in the district of the same name in the province of Izmir .

history

The club was founded in 1970 in the district capital Bergama under the name Bergamaspor and played in the lower regional amateur leagues until the summer of 1984. In the summer of 1980, the then third-highest Turkish league, today's TFF 2nd Lig , was merged with the then second-highest league, today's TFF 1st Lig , to form the 2nd Lig and the third-highest league, then known as the 3rd Lig, was abolished as a professional league . Four years after this decision, the 3rd Lig was reintroduced for the 1984/85 season. For this purpose, several teams from the regional amateur leagues were included in this league, including Bergamaspor. From then on, Bergamaspor played predominantly in this third-highest division. Several times the club was relegated to the amateur league, but managed to return to professional football regularly.

In the 2000s, the city administration took over the association, which was made clear by the name change from Bergamaspor to Bergama Belediyespor .

After nine years of abstinence from Turkish professional football, the club rose to the lowest Turkish professional league, the fourth-class TFF 3rd Lig , in the summer of 2012 .
