Gönenspor is a football club from the Gönen district of the provincial capital Balıkesir . The team currently plays in the 6th league, the Balıkesir Süper Amatoer Lig (as of the 2014/15 season).
history
The association was founded in 1973 under the name Gönenspor.
The club experienced its high points in the early 1990s. In the third division season 1989/90 , the club finished first at the end of the season and rose to the second Turkish league for the first time . In the first second division season 1990/91 Gönenspor occupied 15th place in the table at the end of the season and could just keep the class because he could have a better goal difference compared to Kütahyaspor . In the following season , the club rose back from last place in the third division. Gönenspor has been in this league since their relegation.
In the 2013/14 season, the club finished 2nd in the Balıkesir Süper Amatoer Lig and was allowed to take part in the play-offs for the Boelgesel Amatoer Lig . In the decisive game Gönenspor was defeated by Balıkesir Büyükşehir Belediyespor 0-2 and missed promotion to the 5th division.
