İbrahim Üzülmez (born March 10, 1974 in İzmit ) is a former Turkish football player , coach and commentator.
Life
Üzülmez started playing football at an early age. Since his father would not allow him, he hid and played soccer with other people. He always listened to soccer games on the radio and was a huge fan of Metin Tekin . His biggest dream was to see a Beşiktaş game at Inönü Stadium.
Player career
society
When he was playing soccer with his friends at the age of 16, his talent was discovered by Gönenspor . After playing there for a year, he moved to Demir Çelikspor Karabükspor , but did not manage to establish himself as a regular here. Therefore, he was loaned to other clubs twice. So he played in the 1995/96 season for the third division club İskenderun Demir Çelik Genel Müdürlüğü SK and in the 1997/98 season for the third division Amasyaspor . In the latter case, the loan came about because Üzülmez had to do his military service Amasya . So he was in the team squad in the 1996/97 season and completed three league and one cup encounters. With his club, he ended the second division season 1996/97 as a champion rose to the 1st league , the highest Turkish division at the time. After his return from Amasyaspor he captured a regular place at Karabükspor and ended the first half of the 1998/99 season with 16 league appearances. In the winter break of 1998/99 he moved within the 1st Turkish League to the southern Turkish representative Gaziantepspor . At this club he continued to improve his performance and became one of the most noticeable left-backs in the league.
After completing his military service, he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig for Gaziantepspor . After a year and a half, he moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul in 1999 , where he plays on the left in the back row. In the 2002/2003 season he was able to prove himself and was called up to the Turkish national team. There the left foot was used 37 times up to 2009.
After a fight between him and his teammate İbrahim Toraman , Üzülmez was suspended without notice and fined YTL 150,000 (€ 77,830) by the club ; he was also put on the transfer list. These sentences were also imposed on Ibrahim Toraman. The reason the Beşiktaş board penalized Üzülmez and Toraman so heavily was because they were both captains of the team.
After a repeated fight with Ibrahim Toraman in the dressing room on February 13, 2011, his contract, which was running out at the end of the season, was terminated prematurely.
National team
Üzülmez completed 37 international matches for the Turkish national team during his career and scored one goal.
With the Turkish A selection he took part in the Confederations Cup in 2003 and was third in the tournament with his team.
Coaching career
After the end of his career, he worked as a football commentator on Turkish television for about two years. For the second half of the 2012/13 season he took over the position of assistant coach at the second division club Çaykur Rizespor and assisted his former head coach Mustafa Denizli . Since Denizli at the end of the season, at that time he had led the club to runner-up and thus promotion, did not continue his office at Rizespor, Üzülmez also left the club.
In November 2015 he took over the second division side Elazığspor and thus worked for the first time as head coach. This club, which threatened to move away from the top of the table after a good start to the season, he led back on the road to success and ended the first half of the season as autumn champions . Despite this successful debut, he resigned from his position at the end of December 2015 and did not allow the club officials to change his mind. The reason he named the chaotic circumstances in the club, where the players' salaries were outstanding for a long time and many players were about to say goodbye.
In mid-January 2016 he took over the relegation-threatened first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara as head coach and worked in this role for the first time in the Süper Lig . With this club he got two wins in the first two match days of the second half of the season and thus ensured a first break from the defensive zone. In mid-December 2016, Üzülmez became head coach at Gaziantepspor . After three games he resigned.
In October 2017 he was hired as head coach at the second division club Çaykur Rizespor . At the end of the season he led this club to the second championship and thus to direct promotion to the Süper Lig. After promotion, he remained head coach for five game days. In March 2019 he took over Gençlerbirliği Ankara for the second time in his career. Although he was promoted to the Süper Lig with this team at the end of the 2018/19 season , the club and Üzülmez dissolved the contract by mutual agreement. After this activity, Üzülmez was supposed to be the coach of Kasımpaşa Istanbul . After the coach had been introduced, however, it was announced four hours later that there would be no employment because there should have been differences of opinion during the contract talks.
