Mardinspor is a Turkish football club from the provincial capital Mardin from the province of the same name . The Red-Blue play their home games in the 21-Kasım Stadium . In the 1980s, the club was one of the permanent members of the second highest Turkish league, the TFF 1st Lig .

history

founding

Mardinspor was founded in 1969 through the merger of the associations Kalespor, Timurspor, Mezopotamyaspor and Gençlikspor. In 1970, the club made the step into professional football by participating in what was then the third highest division, today's TFF 2. Lig . After playing in the TFF 2nd Lig and sometimes in the Amateur League for about a decade, in the summer of 1980 they were accepted into the second highest Turkish league, today's TFF 1st Lig . They played here for six years and were relegated to the third division in 1986. Just two years after this relegation, in the summer of 1988 they managed to get promoted to the TFF 1st Lig as champions of the TFF 2nd Lig. In the 1st Lig, relegation failed in the first season and so they played 3rd Division again. The club made it to the second highest Turkish league a second time in 2004 and stayed here until the summer of 2008. From 2008 to 2012 the club played again in the TFF 2nd Lig.

Modern times

Mardinspor started the 2011/12 season with significant financial difficulties. These financial problems worsened during the winter break, so the club could not pay the players' salaries for a long time. As a result, several players went to the sports court of the Turkish Football Association and obtained the termination of their current contracts. Mardinspor was only able to send six footballers onto the field due to the departure of most of the players for the first match of the second half of the season on January 15, 2012 against Denizli Belediyespor . The referee of these encounters, Hüseyin Yıldırım , decided according to the rules and canceled the game. Denizli Belediyespor was listed as the winner by law 3-0. For the next match, this time away against Adana Demirspor , the club was also unable to field a team and lost again by law 3-0. On February 2, 2012, the Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) of the national football association decided, with reference to its rules and regulations, to force the club to be relegated with immediate effect. All remaining matches of the club were canceled and a 3-0 defeat was decided beforehand.

In the 2012/13 season the club took part in the competition in the TFF 3rd Lig . Due to the precarious financial situation, most of the players left the club. Subsequently, players were accepted into the professional squad by the youth team and played in the 3rd league with this provisionally compiled squad, in which all players played without pay. With a 3 point deduction, not a single point was won and only 2 goals were scored. At the end of the season, the club rose with −3 points as bottom of the table in the Boelgesel Amatoer Ligi , the regional amateur league.

In the first season in the regional amateur league, the club sat confidently in its group at the top of the table and ended the league operations as leaders. In the subsequent play-off round, in which the promoted to the TFF 3rd Lig was determined, the club reached the playoff final, but failed with a 3-0 loss to Bayburt Grup İl Özel İdare GS and missed direct re-promotion in the last game.
