Şehmus Özer (born May 10, 1980 in Ergani ; † December 19, 2016 in Elazığ ) was a Turkish football player . Since three of his brothers are also active as football players in professional football, he was known in Turkish football as a member of the Özer Kardeşler (German: Özer Brothers).

Career

Şehmus Özer came from a footballer family. His younger brothers Zülküf Özer , Nezir Özer and Sadettin Özer are also active as professional footballers. He had eight siblings in total.

Özer began with club football in the youth of Erganispor . In the summer of 1998 he received a professional contract here and was accepted into the professional team. Here he made the leap into the regular formation straight away. After he was continuously active here for one season, he moved to the second division team Malatya Belediyespor . After a year he moved to city rivals Malatyaspor . Here he was occasionally used as a supplementary player. At the end of the season, they achieved indirect promotion to the Süper Lig by winning the TFF 1st Lig play-offs . In the Süper Lig he was more of a reservist, so he spent the second half of the season on loan from Kayserispor .

2002/03 he left Malatyaspor and hired the second division club Gümüşhane Doğanspor . After he missed relegation with this club at the end of the season, he moved to Mardinspor within the league . Here he immediately established himself as a top performer and was continuously active for four seasons.

He then went to the second division Karşıyaka SK and experienced his most successful season to date with 13 goals in 31 league games.

At the end of the season he left Karşıyaka and moved to city rivals Altay İzmir . Here he played for two seasons and twice only missed promotion to the Süper Lig in the TFF 1st Lig play-offs in the last instance.

In the summer of 2010/11 he moved to the second division Mersin İdman Yurdu and reached with this club at the end of the season the championship of the TFF 1st Lig and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig .

After his one-year contract with Mersin İdman Yurdu expired, his contract was not renewed. So Özer switched to the second division Akhisar Belediyespor for the upcoming season . Here, completely surprisingly, they achieved the championship of the TFF 1st Lig and thus also the direct promotion to the Süper Lig . With his eleven goals this season, he was the team's top scorer and played a key role in this success. At the end of the season, he dissolved his current contract by mutual agreement and parted ways with Akhisar Belediyespor.

In early September 2012, his move to the second division Şanlıurfaspor was announced. For the winter break of the 2012/13 season he left Şanlıurfaspor and moved to Karşıyaka SK within the league . At the local derby on matchday 26 against Göztepe Izmir there were several clashes on the field. Since Özer attacked the referee Hüseyin Sabancı several times despite warnings, he was banned by the Turkish Football Association for 14 games.

For the new season he moved to the TFF 2nd Lig for city rivals Altay İzmir . Özer was already active at this club between 2008 and 2010.

For the 2014/15 season, Özer was hired by third division club Diyarbakır Büyükşehir Belediyespor , a club in his home province of Diyarbakır .

death

Şehmus Özer was reported missing on the night of December 19, 2016 and found dead two days later. It turned out that the off-road vehicle he was driving himself had come off the road while driving in poor weather conditions from Malatya to Diyarbakır and fell into a canyon about 100 meters deep.
