Amed Sportif Faaliyetler Kulübü or Amed SK for short is a Turkish football club from the provincial capital Diyarbakır ( Kurdish Amed ) of the province of the same name . Amed SK is the company sports club of the local city administration and is financially supported by it.

history

Foundation and the first decade

The association was founded in August 1976 under the name Diyarbakır Melikahmetspor in Diyarbakır . In the summer of 1990 it was bought by the Diyarbakırs city administration, redesigned as a company sports club and renamed Diyarbakır Belediyespor according to this redesign . After the club had been active in the lower regional amateur leagues for almost two decades, the club rose in the summer of 1994 to the Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi , the then third-highest Turkish division, and took part in Turkish professional football for the first time. For the season, the association became the operating team of the state water company of the city of Diyarbakır DİSKİ: Diyarbakır Su ve Kanalizasyon İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü'nün (German: Diyarbakır Water and Sewerage Company ) and was henceforth called Diyarbakır Büyük Şehir Diskispor . The club played in the third highest Turkish division until summer 2001.

Systemic relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-track Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate eight-track Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams that had only occupied a middle place in the table in the third division season 2000/01 were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd Lig, for the coming season. Diyarbakır BB Diskispor, which had ended the league in 4th place in the table, had to relegate to the 3rd Lig due to the system.

Return to the TFF 2nd Lig and renamed Diyarbakır BB

In the summer of 2007 the club reached the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig and rose to the third-class TFF 2nd Lig for the first time in the club's history . After three seasons in the TFF 2nd Lig, he rose again at the end of the 2009/10 season in the TFF 3rd Lig. At the end of the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, the club made it into the play-offs of the TFF 3rd Lig and only missed promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig. For the 2011/12 season, the club changed its name to Today's form Diyarbakır Büyükşehir Belediyespor and has been the operating team of the city administration since then.

Modern times

In the fourth division season 2012/13 , the club started with twelve wins in a row and thus achieved the best start of a team in the Turkish professional leagues. On the 31st matchday of this season, the club secured the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig and thus direct promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig .

In the summer of 2013, the club changed its colors from red-yellow to red-green and thus took over the club colors from the historical club Diyarbakırspor . With the club colors, the club name was originally to be changed to Diyarbakır Amedspor or just Amedspor . Amed is the Kurdish name of the city of Diyarbakir. While the club members voted for a club color change, the majority decided against a name change.

At the general assembly on October 28, 2014, the majority decided to change the name to Amedspor . After the new name has been approved by the Turkish Football Association , the name change should be final. However, the association refused the request for a name change because another club is already registered under this name.

After it turned out that the desired name Amedspor had already been taken, the club submitted an application to the football association to change the name to Amed Sportif Faaliyetler Kulübü , or Amed SK for short . The association stated that it would discuss this application in a board meeting on August 12, 2015. At this meeting, the application was granted, which means that the club began to participate in the competitions under the new name from the 2015/16 season.

In the 2015/16 season, the club was fined 150,000 euros by the Turkish association for political stadium chants by its Kurdish supporters, which corresponded to a quarter of the annual budget.
