Ahmed Hassan Kamel ( Arabic أحمد حسن, DMG Aḥmad Ḥasan ; * May 2, 1975 in Maghagha , al-Minya Governorate ) is a former Egyptian soccer player who was most recently under contract with Zamalek SC . The midfielder took part in seven Africa Cups with the national team between 1998 and 2010 and has been the record-breaking world player since February 27, 2012.

Career in the club

Ahmed Hassan began playing football in his hometown of Maghagha, on the Nile . Hassan started his professional career at his youth club Aswan Club . After a year, however, he left the club in the direction of Ismaily SC , a somewhat more successful club. After the Africa Cup in 1998 Hassan moved to the Turkish league at Kocaelispor . In 2000 he switched to Denizlispor . In 2001 Hassan followed his national team-mate Abdel Zaher El-Saqua to Gençlerbirliği . After three successful years, in which he was twice in the final for the Turkish Cup, he moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul and won the Turkish Cup with this club in the 2005/2006 season.

RSC Anderlecht

After he was voted best player of the tournament at the 2006 African Cup of Nations, some top European clubs were interested in him, including Fulham , Newcastle United and Espanyol Barcelona . However, Hassan opted for RSC Anderlecht and finally moved to the Belgian league on a free transfer. With Anderlecht, Hassan immediately qualified for the UEFA Champions League . In midfield of RSC Anderlecht he formed a unit with Lucas Biglia and Jan Polák . Finally, at the start of the 2007/2008 season, he announced that this would be his last for Anderlecht. His family returned to Egypt in 2007. In the election for the Belgian Golden Shoe, he finished second behind Steven Defour .

Return to Egypt

To end his career, he returned to the Egyptian League and signed a two-year deal with al Ahly Cairo . In his first two games for the club, he scored two goals. For the 2013/2014 season he moved to al Zamalek SC and ended his career at the end of the season.

Career in the national team

On December 29, 1995, Hassan completed his first international match for the senior national team of Egypt under Ruud Krol in the 2-1 defeat by Ghana . At the Africa Cup of 1996 , Hassan was in the Pharaohs squad, but was not used. In the 7-1 victory over Namibia in the World Cup qualifier on November 8, 1996, the Egyptian scored his first goal.

Between 1998 and 2010 Ahmed Hassan was used at seven consecutive Africa Cups ; The Egyptian scored eight goals in 32 games. In 1999 and 2009 Hassan also came to a total of six missions and one hit in the Confederations Cup .

During the Africa Cup of 2010 , Ahmed Hassan made his 170th international appearance, surpassing Hossam Hassan as the record national player for Egypt. With the 178th mission on November 14, 2011, he set the previous record of Saudi Mohammad ad-Daʿayyaʿ as a world record national player ; since February 27, 2012 he has been the men's world record holder; currently in 19th position behind 18 female soccer players with more international matches. By May 2012, he played a total of 184 international matches, in which he scored 33 goals.
