Jan Polák (born March 14, 1981 in Brno ) is a Czech football player on the position of midfielder .
Club career
From his first club, FC Tatran Bohunice , Polák moved to FC Zbrojovka Brno . He made his debut in the Czech first division on March 20, 1998 at the age of 17 years and six days. Zbrojovka Brno lost 4-0 to FC Petra Drnovice in the derby . After 124 games and five goals, Polák moved in the summer of 2002 for around 20 million Czech crowns to FC Slovan Liberec , with whom he signed a four-year contract.
In three years he played 65 times nationally and 17 times internationally for Liberec. Most recently he was a regular and was voted the best player in the first half of the league before moving from Slovan Liberec to Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg for the 2005/06 season. He made his debut on August 6, 2005 (1st matchday) in the 3-0 defeat in the away game against Hamburger SV ; he scored his first Bundesliga goal on May 2, 2006 (32nd matchday) in a 5-2 win at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach , making it 2-2 in the 60th minute. Polák won the DFB Cup with FCN in the 2006/07 season .
In early August 2007, Polák moved to the Brussels club RSC Anderlecht . In his first year he won his second national cup in a row with the club and in the following year he was a regular in the defensive midfield. In the league, Anderlecht were runner-up in both years. In the 2009/10 season the Belgian record champions won their 30th league title. However, the Czech fell out for a long time after a cruciate ligament rupture shortly after the start of the season and only made four appearances. The following year Polák played again regularly in the first half of the season, but when he received an offer from VfL Wolfsburg during the winter break , which was looking for reinforcement after an unsatisfactory season, he moved back to the German Bundesliga at the end of January 2011.
The Lower Saxony, he came after regularly used and in his tenth season game on 16 April 2011 (30th matchday) he scored the deficit to 2: 2 in the 89th minute in the home game against FC St. Pauli and his first Bundesliga for VfL. Only in the last two games, when it was decided that the wolves would stay in the class, he was not called up.
For the 2014/15 season Polák returned to 1. FC Nürnberg . In the summer of 2016, Polak returned to his former youth club FC Zbrojovka Brno after two years at 1. FC Nürnberg.
National team
Polák completed a total of 106 missions for Czech youth teams from the U-15 selection to the U-21 national team. In 2002, the midfielder won the European Championship with the U-21 national team . Polák made his senior national team debut in 1999 at the age of 18 . After another assignment in 2000, it took five years before Polák was reappointed. On his return on February 9, 2005, Polák also scored his first goal in the national team's dress and helped his team to a 3-0 win over Slovenia in Celje . Polák met again in the next game on March 26, 2005, a 4-3 victory over Finland in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup . In the game after that, an 8-1 win against Andorra , the midfielder also hit the opposing goal. Polák scored his first brace on September 7, 2005, when the Czechs beat Armenia 4-1 in Olomouc . With the Czech Republic, Polák took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland .
Polák played 57 international matches for the Czech Republic by March 2011 , in which he scored seven goals. In the successful qualification for the 2006 World Cup , he scored four goals in ten games.
