Hossam Hassan ( Arabic حسام حسن, DMG Ḥusām Ḥasan , born August 10, 1966 in Helwan ) is a former Egyptian football player and current coach . He was the record-breaking Egyptian and African national player until Ahmed Hassan broke his record of 169 appearances in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals against Cameroon . He is also the player who has scored the most goals for his national team.

On June 8, 1997, he was the first African to play his 100th international match against Tunisia . On October 8, 2000, when the Egyptian national soccer team played a friendly against Sudan , Hassan played his 150th international match.

After the African Cup of Nations in 2006 , he was number 3 in the record international with 169 international matches behind Mohammad ad-Daʿayyaʿ and Claudio Suárez . With 69 goals scored, he is the sixth scorer.

His twin brother Ibrahim made 125 international appearances for Egypt.
