Claudio Luis Suárez Sánchez (born December 17, 1968 in Texcoco , México ) is a retired Mexican football player who played in defense. He is the record player for Mexico and CONCACAF and, together with Mohammad ad-Daʿayyaʿ from Saudi Arabia, is the player with the most international appearances counted by the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation . From September 5, 2001 to February 14, 2006 he was the world record holder with 165 to 173 games and was then replaced by Mohammad ad-Daʿayyaʿ, who increased the record to 178 games. On June 1, 2006, Suárez was able to equalize the record with his 178th international match. From the FIFA only 177 official international matches are counted (probably the FIFA considers the match against Martinique on 11 July 1993 at the 1993 CONCACAF Gold Cup not as an official senior international since Martinique is not a member of FIFA), the Mexican Association even has 180 Matches 2003, the stadium in his hometown was named after him.

National team

Since 1992, Suárez has played 177 FIFA-recognized international matches for the Mexican national football team . He was part of the Mexico squad at the 2006 World Cup , but was not used there. He has already participated in the 1994 and 1998 World Championships, as well as in the tournaments for the Confederation Cup in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001, the Copa America in 1993, 1995, 1999 and 2004 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 2000. His last international match was against the Netherlands on June 1, 2006 .

Suárez began his club career with the UNAM Pumas , where he played from 1988 to 1996. He moved to Chivas de Guadalajara in 1996 and stayed there for three years. From 1999 he played with the UANL Tigres . At the beginning of 2006 Suárez moved to the CD Chivas USA in the Major League Soccer .

After a brief stint with the Carolina RailHawks , he finally ended his career in 2010.

With officially 177 and unofficially 180 internationals, he is Mexico's record player and has unofficially played the most internationals at all, after only 178 games are counted for Mohammad ad-Daʿayyaʿ . On February 27, 2012, the Egyptian Ahmed Hassan played his 179th international match and would be the official record holder.
