Estadio Claudio Suárez (formerly Estadio Municipal de Texcoco ) is a football stadium in the center of the city of Texcoco de Mora , the seat of the municipality of the same name in the state of México . The stadium, located immediately south of the Hospital General de Zona 197 IMSS , has only one grandstand on the west side of the square; its main entrance is on the south side on Calle José María Arteaga .

history

The former Estadio Municipal de Texcoco was the home ground of the first division club CD Coyotes Neza before they could move to the newly built Estadio José López Portillo . In addition, several second division teams played their home games in this stadium.

It all started with Club Deportivo Texcoco (formerly Club Oviedo ), which used the stadium as a home ground in the second division between 1959 and 1969 .

After Coyotes Neza had acquired the license of the economically troubled Club Laguna and was thus entitled to participate in the Primera División from the 1978/79 season , the club lacked a suitable stadium in its own city . Therefore, the team had to move to the surrounding area. After two "home games", which were played in Cruz Azul's old stadium on December 10th , she moved into her permanent home ground in the Estadio Municipal de Texcoco for the next few years. The debut took place on October 8, 1978 against Deportivo Toluca and ended goalless. The first first division goals in the Estadio Municipal de Texcoco fell two weeks later in the home game against the team of the Universidad de Guadalajara , which was won 2-1. The first goal scorer was Ricardo González Bango, who gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

After the Coyotes left the Estadio Municipal de Texcoco, presumably in the summer of 1981, the team was invited by Osos Grises de Toluca to move their home ground there in order to continue using the stadium. They brought second division football to the city in the 1981/82 season and competed between 1982 and 1985 under the new name Club Texcoco . From 1986 to 1988, a club called Toros de Texcoco brought second division football to the city for the last time .

In 2003, the stadium was named in honor of the Texcoco-born Mexican record national player Claudio Suárez .

  5. Medio Tiempo specifies the Estadio Neza 86 as the home ground of Neza (incorrectly always called Toros Neza and not Coyotes Neza ) from October 8, 1978 , which did not even exist at that time. In this respect, based on this source, it cannot be traced at what specific point in time the later change of home venue took place. The statement in an article by El Siglo de Torreón dated December 16, 2009 , according to which the Estadio Neza 86 was inaugurated on February 12, 1984 with a friendly match against the Boca Juniors , is also contradictory because, according to a match report at Medio Tiempo ( Memento of the original from March 27, 2014 in the Internet Archive ) Info: The archive link was automatically inserted and not yet checked. Please check the original and archive link according to the instructions and then remove this notice. on the same day there was a championship game against Toluca, which was won 4: 3. @1@ 2Template: Webachiv / IABot / www.mediotiempo.com
