Toros Neza is a Mexican football club that was represented in the top division of Mexican football, the Primera División , between 1993 and 2000 .
prehistory
Several teams have already competed in the Primera División for the satellite town of Nezahualcóyotl east of Mexico City . It started in 1978 with a club called CD Coyotes Neza , which acquired the first division license from CF Laguna . This club belonged to the first division for ten years and then sold its license to the relegated UAT Correcaminos .
History of the Toros
It was not until 1993 that top division football came back to the rapidly growing satellite city with the rise of the university football team from the Universidad Tecnológico de Neza (UTN) . This team renamed itself Toros de Neza for its first division appearance - and was confronted in its first season with a problem that had never been seen before in Mexican football. The Mexican Football Association questioned the first division suitability of the home ground of the Toros Neza insofar as it saw the security in this stadium not guaranteed. An investigation confirmed this initial suspicion and so the club was forced to play the home games of its first first division season in Pachuca , which also resulted in a temporary change of name to Toros Hidalgo . However, the concerns of the FMF seem strange in that this stadium had only been built a few years earlier for the 1986 World Cup .
Because of this turbulence, first division football actually only returned to Nezahualcoyotl in the summer of 1994.
In contrast to their predecessor club Coyotes, the Toros were able to write football history in a certain way by being runner-up and reaching the cup final in 1997. In addition, the 1997 Copa Parmalat won . The successful squad of the team from 1997 consisted of the following players: Pablo Larios , Juan Gutiérrez (goal) - Humberto González, Federico Lussenhoff, Miguel Herrera , Carlos Briseño, Pedro Pablo Osorio (defense) - Javier Saavedra, Jesús López Meneses, Antonio Mohamed , Guillermo Vázquez , Manuel Virchis, Miguel Ángel Murillo Cancino, Humberto Romero , Carlos Reynoso (midfield) - Rodrigo Ruiz, Germán Arangio, Óscar Vega, Nidelson Silva de Melo, Ramiro Romero, Carlos García (forward). But just three years later, the club's just rising star quickly went down again with relegation to the second division . After two years in the second division (2000 to 2002), the Toros sold their license to a new franchise called Gavilanes de Nuevo Laredo , which in turn withdrew after a catastrophic half-series with just one win from 19 games. The Toros were reactivated at a later date and played again in the second division in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons , before they withdrew from the league again through license sales after a lost promotion final (2013 against CF La Piedad ).
