The Teufelsberg is 597.6 m above sea level. NHN high mountain massif in the southern Palatinate Forest on the boundary of the local community Burrweiler in the district of Südliche Weinstrasse ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). A secondary peak is less than 1 km north-northwest of the Lambertskopf with 543.5 m .
Geographical location
The Teufelsberg is located near the southern end of the Haardt , which forms the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest, and offers a wide view of the Upper Rhine Plain . It is not accessible for traffic and can only be reached on marked hiking trails.
Attractions
Bishop's cross
At the highest point of the Teufelsberg, which is formed by a boulder , a stone weather cross stands on a high base . It was by the local sculptor John Minges created and on 25 July 1909 by the Speyer Bishop Konrad von Busch ordained . That is why it is popularly known as the Bishop's Cross . This is also the name of a vineyard in the nearby wine-growing town of Walsheim .
Anna Chapel
On a mountain spur on the eastern slope of the Teufelsberg, between the summit and Burrweiler, lies the Catholic Anna Chapel at a height of 428 m . It was built in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style . Pilgrimages are regularly held on the Way of the Cross to her in July and August , and every year on May 1st the parishes of Burrweiler and Flemlingen undertake their procession of vows up to the chapel.
