Michele Guerrisi (born February 23, 1893 in Cittanova near Reggio Calabria , † 1963 in Rome ) was an Italian artist and art historian.

Life

Guerrisi grew up in Palmi (Calabria). He studied in Calabria , Florence , Rome and Naples , where he graduated from the Instituto di Belle Arti (Art Academy) in 1916 with a degree in literature and sculpture. In the following years he taught art history at the art academies in Palermo (1920-21), Carrara (1921-22) and Turin (1922-1941). In Turin he also taught art history at the Scuola Superiore di Architettura (School of Architecture) and at the Facoltà di Magistero (University of Education). After 1941 he was a professor at the Art Academy in Rome, where he became director in 1952.

Michele Guerrisi was married to Martha Rempdte, who came from a German-Danish family based in Naples.

Michele Guerrisi's pupils were e.g. B. in Turin Umberto Mastroianni (* 1910, † 1998) and in Rome Elisabeth Managò , b. Herder (* 1930, † 2013). Works by Michele Guerrisi as a sculptor stand a. a. in his birthplace Cittanova (monument in the park), in Palmi (the grave of the composer and music teacher Francesco Cilea from Palmi and the memorial for fallen soldiers), in Turin and in Rome.
