Burrweiler is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Edenkoben .

geography

location

The community is located 7 km south of Edenkoben an der Haardt on the western edge of the Rhine plain within the Weinstrasse region . Burrweiler to additionally include the residential places winery Annaberg and sawmill Burrweilermühle. Neighboring communities are clockwise - including exclaves - Weyher in the Palatinate , Hainfeld , Flemlingen , Böchingen , Gleisweiler , Walsheim , Ramberg , Hainfeld and Edesheim . With the Burrweiler Forest , the community also has a forest dexclave to the northwest. This borders clockwise to Hainfeld , Edesheim , Roschbach , Ramberg, Walsheim , Flemlingen and Roschbach .

Surveys

Immediately to the west of the settlement area rises the Annaberg and northeast of the Geisberg , alternatively called Schlossberg . The southern flank of the 637-meter-high Roßberg is on the parish of the local community. The 597.6 meter high Teufelsberg stretches along the boundary of Gleisweiler . Within the forest enclave rise the 536 meter high Langentalkopf in the west, the 566 meter high Pfaffenkopf in the north and the 581.3  meter high Hermeskopf in the east .

Waters

To the west of the Roßberg is the Roßbrunnen . The Modenbach runs through the far north of the district in a west-east direction . The Hainbach rises in the west of the district, flows south and leaves the municipal mark after around one kilometer. The forest enclave is bounded in the west by the Eusserbach , which in this area is called Katzenbach . The source of the Dernbach is located in it , but a short time later it crosses the border with Ramberg.

history

Burrweiler was mentioned for the first time on April 7, 1275 in a document from King Rudolf von Habsburg in the Weißenburg monastery . In 1657 Burrweiler came to the Barons von der Leyen , with whom it remained until the end of the 18th century.

After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 the village belonged to the French department of Donnersberg , was assigned to the canton of Edenkoben and had its own mairie , which also included Flemlingen and Roschbach . In 1815 the community had a total of 880 inhabitants. Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange contract with Austria , the region came to the Kingdom of Bavaria after a one-year interlude in 1816 . From 1818 to 1862 the community of Burrweiler was the Landau Landau in the Bavarian Rhine District ; from this the district office of Landau emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform moved Frankweiler in the newly created on June 7, 1969 the district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . In 1972 the community was assigned to the also newly formed community community of Edenkoben .

In 2012, 63.2 percent of the population were Catholic and 16.9 percent Protestant . The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. Municipal council

The council in Burrweiler consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Christian Weber became the local mayor of Burrweiler on July 14, 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 77.96% of the votes. Weber's predecessor Josef Rabold did not run again in 2014 after ten years in office.

The town center is designated as a monument zone ; there are also numerous individual objects that are under monument protection , including the Burrweiler Castle and the Annaberg Chapel . The latter probably originally dates from the 16th century and was completely renovated several times, most recently in 1895 and 1896.

Other structures

In September 2000 the German Oven Museum was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Kurt Beck . The story of the stove from the open hearth of the 16th century to the stove of the 20th century was shown on over 100 exhibits in a timely manner in the sequence of the style epochs. In 2009 it was closed. The museum is now located in the Viessmann factory in Allendorf (Eder) . In Burrweiler, however, there is still an antique kiln gallery in the exhibition rooms of the Stritzinger company.

The Geisberg Castle, which has since been sold, was also located in the Burrweiler district .

nature

There are two natural monuments in the Burrweiler district . In addition, the Haardtrand - Annaberg nature reserve extends partially over the municipality. The entire municipality - including the area beyond the Palatinate Forest with buildings and surrounding vineyards - is part of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park , which in turn belongs to the cross-border Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord Biosphere Reserve .

Burrweiler is a wine-growing town and as such part of the Palatinate wine-growing region . The individual layers Altenforst , Schloßgarten , Schäwer and St. Annaberg are located on site . The Herbert Meßmer winery is located in the community and is a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries .

In the course of the Haingeraide , the place was involved in the so-called second Haingeraide - alternatively called Mittel-Haingeraide - which was dissolved in the early modern period and which was partially subordinated to the community.

From this the district road 58 branches off within the settlement area , which leads north into the Palatinate Forest and to the south reaches the state road 519 . Burrweiler is located on the German Wine Route , which in this area is identical to Landesstrasse 507 . The Palatinate Keschdeweg , the Palatinate Weinsteig and the German Wine Route cycle path run through the village . The place is also the starting point of a hiking trail, which is marked with a blue bar and which leads to the Drei Buchen pass. A hiking trail that is marked with a red bar also runs across the forest . In addition, the St. Anna hut is located on the municipal marker.
