geology

The district Heuchelheim runs on a hill ridge and is bordered on the one hand by the Kaiserbach in the Kaiserbachtal, and on the other hand by the Klingbach in the Klingbachtal. The district of Klingen borders the Klingbach on the opposite side and extends for a kilometer along the valley, from the Bacchushof in the west to the Protestant church and the old mill in the east of the village. The heraldic forge near Ingenheim also belongs to the district of Klingen. The village is surrounded by vines, with a few orchards and arable land scattered around the community.

climate

The weather is very temperate. The region is also referred to as the Tuscany of Germany.

history

Heuchelheim is mentioned as Huchilinheim in the Lorsch documents as early as 795 . There is no exact date of the founding of the village of Klingen . However, early stone finds were made in the Klingbachtal .

Religions

There are two Protestant churches from the 15th century in the parish. The church in Heuchelheim is consecrated to Sankt Oswald , the Klingener Kirche to Sankt Georg . The majority of the residents are Protestant.

Incorporations

Today's community was created on June 7, 1969 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform by merging the two communities of Heuchelheim and Klingen. Both had previously belonged to the Bad Bergzabern district . The newly formed community came to the Landau-Bad Bergzabern district, which was established in 1969 and was renamed the Südliche Weinstrasse district in 1978. The amalgamation of the two communities took place despite a failed referendum against the will of the population. In the vote, more than 90% voted against the dissolution of the previously independent municipalities.

Blazon : “Under a blue shield head, inside two slanted leafy silver grapes. Underneath, divided obliquely by silver and blue, the old coats of arms of the former communities; Above the Heuchelheim coat of arms: a black kettle hook with a floating six-pointed red star in its arch; below the Klingen coat of arms: a silver mark in the form of a large U, the legs of which are connected by two bars and each with two balls at the top, above a hovering, pointed silver ploughshare. "

Attractions

In the district of Heuchelheim, the town hall is one of the sights, which is striking due to its round arches and historical half-timbering. In the church of St. Oswald, frescoes from the Middle Ages can be seen in the choir room.

In the Klingen district, the old village church from the late Middle Ages is particularly worth seeing. In it stands one or even the oldest organ in the Palatinate. The old heraldic forge is also worth seeing.

But the village facilities themselves are worth seeing because of their old and well-kept buildings. The districts were already winners, as well as third in the federal decision of our village should be more beautiful .

Economy and Infrastructure

Viticulture

The place is significantly influenced by viticulture and is one of the largest wine-growing communities in the Palatinate . The community is best known for its good red wines. The district of Klingen bears the name "The Red Wine Village" due to the predominant cultivation of red grape varieties. In addition, the “Rotweinkerwe” is celebrated every year on the first weekend in September. With one exception, only red wines are served at the festival.

traffic

From 1892 to 1967 Heuchelheim and Klingen were connected to the railway network via the Klingbachtalbahn . Since then, the closest train station has been Rohrbach .
